Waterfowl Hunting Season
The waterfowl hunting season begins in the autumn months running into winter. In the fall, waterfowl such as ducks and geese have finished raising their young and begin to migrate south to warmer areas for feeding. In the United States there are four large flyways that the waterfowl follow. These flyways include the Atlantic, Mississippi, Mountain and Pacific Flyways. Hunters can best find waterfowl along rivers, lakes and ponds as well as fields of corn, barley, wheat and millet. Many hunters prefer cloudy or rainy days as the air pressure is low causing the ducks to fly lower more often.
Waterfowl Hunting Season Dates
Hunting seasons are set and regulated by the US Fish and Wildlife Service in the United States. Waterfowl season dates are only tentative at first as set dates are not chosen until the end of August. Hunters can visit their state fish and wildlife commission online in order to obtain season start dates. In preperation for the season many hunters will begin to check their gear for any damages and to access their waterfowl hunting needs. This ensures that they have all of the necessities for opening day.
